The Tour Championship

The playoffs for the FedEx Cup comes to an end this weekend as the top 30 players on the PGA tour meet at East Lake Country Club here in Atlanta. By the end of the weekend a new player will hold the FedEx Cup and the title of best golfer of the year. Only two players in the history of the playoffs have held the cup (Vijay Singh and Tiger Wooods). If any of the top five players in the standings win the tournament, they will also win the Cup. Those five players are Matt Kucher, Dustin Johnson, Charley Hoffman, Steve Stricker, and Paul Casey.
But there are other scenarios where anyone in the top ten wins the tournament they would also win the cup, but they would need some help by poor play by all of the top five. Phil Michelson is currently 10th and hopes he can pull off the win again this year. If he does, not only will he have a chance to win the FedEx cup, but he would also take over the #1 ranking in the world. But if you follow Phil, you know that is a huge hurdle for him to clear. I would love for him to overtake Tiger (who didn’t qualify for this tournament) and become the #1 ranked player, but I am not holding my breath!

Anyway, this tournament is very exciting due to the fact it only has 30 players and they are top 30 players on tour right now. That means there will be some great golf on an amazing course. It is going to be fun to watch!
