Dawgs to honor local troops

During the game this week against South Carolina, the team will honor Georgia's 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, now deployed to Afghanistan. The Dawgs players will be wearing the unit's insignia on their helmets. Coach Mark Richt was turned on to the idea after receiving an e-mail from a soldier stationed in Afghanistan. Lt. Col. John Gentry. Lt. Gentry first suggested it as a way to honor the seven soldiers from the 48th brigade who have died in combat. Richt, who visited U.S. troops in Germany and the Middle East last summer, said wearing the insignia is a way to show the team's appreciation for the troops and their families.
I think this is an admirable gesture by the team and the university.

Go Dawgs and God bless our troops!
