Wine Review – 05 Jekel Vineyards Pinot Noir

Jekel Vineyards was founded in 1972 in Monterey County, California. They have gained a reputation of producing affordable; quality wines from the diverse growing region that is Monterey County. The grapes come from a variety of Monterey County vineyards, with a dash of Sonoma County fruit for good measure. The wine is fermented in stainless steel, and then aged in French oak barrels. The resulting wine has aromas of big fruit like cherry and raspberry and has a hint of spice and clove. It is not extremely complex but does have a nice medium weight in the mouth with tastes of cherries, strawberries and fresh herbs. The finish is long and supple. It’s a wine that would be very versatile with food; we enjoyed it with an Asian glazed grilled salmon. This is a good quality Pinot Noir for a reasonable price. I paid $15.99 but I have seen in a little cheaper online. This Pinot would be a nice Tuesday night wine.

Cheers!
