All Aboard The Polar Express!

For those of you who have kids/grandkids/nieces/nephews or have friends with kids, I am sure you have seen or heard of the movie The Polar Express (based on a book written by Chris Van Allsburg.) The movie came out several years back and was a pet project of Tom Hanks. He actually plays 4 or 5 roles in the animated movie. Anyway, the story is about a kid who is starting to not believe in Santa anymore and is visited by a magical train on Christmas Eve for a journey to the North Pole, which reassures him that Santa does exist. This is a great Christmas movie and lucky for me, it is one of my kid’s favorite movies so we get to watch it all year long! We even have a replica Polar Express train that goes around the bottom of our Christmas tree!

Anyway, this weekend we are going to get a chance to ride on the Polar Express. The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad in Bryson City, NC is the place where the train departs from and it sounds like they are going to do their best to make the kids feel like they are actually riding on the train from the movie. Santa will be at the destination (the North Pole), there will be a conductor similar to the one from the movie, and we will be drinking hot chocolate, just like in the movie. The kids are encouraged to wear their pajamas like the kids in the movie, so it should be really cute. I know my boys are going to be nervous and very excited to take the trip. We are also going to spend the weekend up in the mountains in a cabin with some friends whose kids are also going to ride the train. I can’t wait to see the kid’s reaction when they see the real Polar Express!

All Aboard!
