Head Scratcher?

I am totally baffled and confused as to why Jay Jacobs, the Athletic Director at Auburn, hired Gene Chizik as the new head coach. Chizik came from Iowa State where he had a record of 5-19 in his two years as the head coach. Yes, you read that right; he had 5 wins in two years as a head coach at the Division I level. He was the defensive coordinator for Auburn back in 2004 (the year they went 13-0 and got screwed out of playing for the National Championship) and he says the head job at Auburn is his dream job. Well, it might be his dream job, but most of the fans don’t feel the same way. I don’t blame them! He might be a nice guy and a good coach but he is not a name that is going to sway kids to go to Auburn over Alabama or any other SEC school. As for Iowa St, they need send Jay Jacobs a nice basket of muffins for taking away their ineffective coach.

As a Georgia fan, I love the hire. I see nothing in this guy that is going to strikes fear in the minds of the Dawgs or any other team in the SEC. I know one thing; the hiring of Chizik is not going to immediately win the recruiting battles between Auburn and Alabama. Who would you rather go play for, Gene Chizik or Nick Saban? Maybe Jay Jacobs is a genius and Gene Chizik will come in and win an SEC title and play for the National Championship in a year or two, but by looking at his track record, I don’t think he has a chance and there will continue to be trouble out on the plains!
