UGA ranked #1 in Coaches Poll

Well, it is official, the National Championship hype has begun. Since the end of the bowl season earlier this year, there has been talk about who is going to be ranked pre-season #1. Some say it is USC, others say Ohio St. or Oklahoma, Florida was even mentioned is a few places. But the one team that seemed to be at the top of most publications has been Georgia. Now the first Coaches Poll of the season is out and the Dawgs are sitting at #1. This is the first time that UGA has been ranked #1 of any preseason poll. I see it as a great sign of what is to come, but I also see it as a target on our backs. But in this day and age, you can not be a serious contender for the National Championship unless you are ranked in the top 5-8 in the preseason. Just look at what happened to Auburn a few years ago when they started the season ranked 13th, went undefeated and didn’t get a chance to play for the National Championship. So if you are not ranked high in the preseason you won’t have a shot to play for a title. "Being number one in the coaches' preseason poll does have significance since it's one-third of the formula to decide who plays in the national championship game," Georgia coach Mark Richt said Friday in press release from the university. There is going to be a great deal of pressure on the Georgia players this year and just hope they are ready for it. I feel that Coach Richt has done a good job preparing his guys for this situation and we will do well. What gets me is that the coaches in the SEC didn’t even pick Georgia to win the SEC East, they think Florida is going to take that title. Well, I guess we will have to see how things play out on the field. All I know is, this is going to be one exciting season and I can’t wait for it to start!
