Hockey Fights Cancer is a joint initiative founded in December 1998 by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association to raise money and awareness for hockey's most important fight. It is supported by NHL Member Clubs, NHL Alumni, the NHL Officials' Association, Professional Hockey Trainers and Equipment Managers, corporate marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America. To date, more than $10 million has been raised to support national and local cancer research institutions, Children’s Hospitals, player charities and local cancer organizations.
The league-wide initiative includes numerous activities that involve all 30 clubs, players, management and fans, as well as the creation of Hockey Fights Cancer-themed merchandise, all with the goal of raising awareness and funds for this important cause.
To support Hockey Fights Cancer, you can purchase Hockey Fights Cancer ties, scarves, hats and more at Shop.NHL.com. A portion of all proceeds will go to benefit Hockey Fights Cancer. I think I am going to order a purple Thrashers hat, it looks pretty cool!
There will also be Hockey Fights Cancer nights at all NHL arenas throughout the month of October. The night in Atlanta will be October 18th when the Thrashers play the Buffalo Sabres.
