On Saturday, the weather was perfect. It was slightly overcast and in the upper 50’s at the start of the race. It was pretty humid, but we do live in the south. Anyway, I felt good and thought I could put up a good time and my goal was to make it in less than fifty minutes. After starting out to fast like I do in every race, I finally settled down and got into a good rhythm. But I still felt like I was going to fast and sure enough at about mile five, I hit the wall. While checking my times at each mile marker I realized I slowed down considerably from mile 4-5 then I did for the first 3 miles. But knowing my goal, I had to try to push through and keep up the pace. Luckily the last mile being flat and then downhill help a lot. I made my goal with a few seconds to spare and that means I have qualifying time (better than 55 minutes) for the Peachtree Road race in July. So, hopefully I will get a good number and will be able to start in the 1st or 2nd groups.
Meg and her running group also ran the race and all turned in great times, then after getting our shirts and a drink, they went back out and ran another 4 miles. While I went home and hit the couch! They are more dedicated than I am and they are still training for the half marathon coming up at the end of the month.
