Close the books on another great class!

Well, with the announcement of Orson Charles signing with UGA on Friday, you can officially close the books on another great recruiting class for Coach Mark Richt. Orson Charles picked the Dawgs over Tennessee and USC and this is the longest recruiting battle the Dawgs have had since they signed Herschel Walker. Usually the status of the class isn’t as drawn out as this, but the only recruit that the Dawgs were unsure about was the tight end from Tampa’s Plant High School. Charles is a beast (6-3, 230lbs) and I think he is going to come in and make an impact early. He signed his letter of intent on Friday and by Sunday he was already reviewing and working on plays with his high school QB and current UGA signee and student, Aaron Murray. Murray enrolled early and therefore was allowed to have a playbook and now is home on spring break working with Orson on running routes and getting familiar with the system. I think these two young men are going to be great additions to the bulldog’s family.

Charles had numerous honors including PrepStar Top 100 Dream Team, SuperPrep Elite 50, Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100, and Class AAAA Florida Sports Writers Association All-State. As a senior he recorded 75 receptions for 1,440 yards and 21 touchdowns. In the state championship game, he had six catches for 132 yards and two TD’s. Orson Charles is the second top tight end that signed with UGA this year, Arthur Lynch of Dartmouth Mass is the other. With these two guys, we will return to being known for producing great NFL tight ends like Ben Watson, Randy McMichael, Leonard Pope, and Jermaine Wiggins.

Before he signed with the Dawgs, he was already endearing for many Dawgs fans when he accidentally knocked over and shattered Florida’s 2006 BCS National Championship trophy last April while touring the campus. I think that was a sign that he would eventually sign to play in Athens. You got to love that if you are a Dawgs fan!

Welcome to the Bulldog Nation!
