The third annual ING Marathon and Half Marathon will be run through some of the most historic neighborhoods in Atlanta on Sunday. Click here to see the map of the full and half marathons. The gun goes off at 7am and Meg and her running group will be in the field. This is really quite amazing if you think about it. This time a year ago, Meg was recovering from her last chemo treatment and it was at that last treatment that she set her goal of running in the ING Half Marathon. Now that day is upon us and she is ready to take on the course on Sunday. She and her running group have been training for months for this weekend and I am sure they will all do great. The running group consists of Meg, her Dad and her friends Susie and Keating. They have worked really hard and have stayed on track with their training.
I couldn’t be prouder of my wife, she has been through so much in the last two years. She gave birth to the Amazing Henry and then three months later was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has endured numerous surgeries, hundreds of blood tests, 6 toxic chemotherapy treatments, and unbearable side effects from the treatments and drugs. All of this while continuing to work, raise a family and deal with me! That is pretty incredible! She is worried that her time might not be great on Sunday, but it is not the time that matters. What matters is that she didn’t let cancer beat her down and that she fought through it, kicked it’s ass and is now back to doing the things she loves.
If you can, please go out on Sunday and support Meg, her running group and all of the other runners who are going to be pushing themselves to their limits. I am sure Meg is not the only one who has overcome tough circumstances to get to the start line and they each have their own story. Even if it is not as dramatic as Meg's, they should all be proud of finishing, no mater what their times are.
Good luck runners!
