The Snuggie© – a true cult item

I am sure you have all seen it while watching a late night TV show or maybe on a cable channel. I am talking about the commercial for the hottest (or should I say the warmest) new product to hit the public since Oxiclean or space saver bags, I am talking about the Snuggie©! For those of you who don’t know what a Snuggie© is, it is an over sized fleece blanket that has sleeves. While wearing it, you will look like a medieval monk, but you will be warm monk. I love it!

The Snuggie© craze has hit America and it has hit hard! Already there have been over 4 million sold in the US alone. Sales are strong and the company is having problems keeping up with the demand. Because of this, it seems it will take longer than the guaranteed 4-6 weeks delivery time, so be prepared to wait. The craze has become popular on the internet as well, there are nearly 250 groups on Facebook and hundreds of videos on YouTube. Of course with a product so popular, there are bound to be haters out there, so beware. The Snuggie© has become a popular topic on the late night talk shows like Leno, Conan and Letterman and Fox News even spotted someone wearing on during the recent inauguration. Which brings me to my favorite part of the commercial. During the commercial they show the many different ways to use and enjoy the Snuggie©; you can wear it while watching TV and still have your hands free to use the remote, eat a snack, talk on the phone, play a game, read a book, hold a baby, knit …and so on. But the best scene in the entire commercial is when the family, all wearing Snuggies©, are outside at a ball game. All of the people around them are dressed for cold weather in big coats, hats and gloves, but this family looks even warmer in their Snuggies©. Granted, they look like they just escaped from the monastery, but they do look warm! So maybe there was at least one smart Obama supporter at the inauguration! (Just kidding)

Anyway, there are certain products the just take the country by storm, and the latest is the Snuggie©. It is even getting through to kids. My oldest son stood up at his Papa’s birthday dinner and said he was going to get him a Snuggie© for his birthday, no lie! Mac and I just start laughing every time the commercial airs. He loves it and he finds the humor in the commercial and he is only 4 ½! So, if you don’t have one yet you better place your order soon so you will have it for next winter!
