Junior to be a Brave!

Ken Griffey Jr. has chosen to sign with the Braves, according to a person close to the veteran star and familiar with the on-going negotiations. Griffey and Braves general manager Frank Wren met Monday night in Orlando. Wren and Griffey’s agent were scheduled to meet today in an effort to finalize a deal. The Braves will be adding a 13-time former All-Star who’s one of six players to hit 600 or more home runs and will definitely be in the Hall of Fame once his career is over. The 39-year-old Griffey, will mainly play left field in a platoon situation with Matt Diaz and will also play some center field. Last year Griffey hit .249 with 18 homers and 71 RBI. I think this is a great pickup by the Braves! Even though Jr. is not in his prime, he will make a huge contribution to the team as well as get fans down to the stadium. I feel for the amount of money the team offered (around 2 million) that it is a steal. He is still one of the best hitters in baseball against right-handed pitching and he is a solid outfielder. If he can just stay healthy, then it will be all-good! Now if we could just sign Glavine, he would play with both Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. just 22 years apart!

Nice work Braves!

I hear you made fun of my Shaq post....maybe I was stretching a bit for a filler there, but I did think it was super cool.

I didn't make fun of it, I thought it was cool! I had actually watched that video earlier in the day and thought about putting it up on my site, but opted for the Ken Griffey Jr. story. I guess great minds think alike!

It was Mr. Townie that made fun of my Snuggie post!
