Vinotherapy

Vinotherapy is the use of wine and grapes in health and beauty treatments. We all know that drinking wine has some health benefits, well apparently there are many other ways wine and grapes can improve your health and skin. Cleopatra credits her ravishing complexion to bathing in wine. Hippocrates favored local wines as a fever cure. Roman soldiers used wine to clean wounds. So this is not something they just invented, but it is something that is catching on at spas and wellness centers all around the world. Wine-centric spas are opening all over world in all of the major grape-growing regions. Like the wines, the vinotherapy varies from region to region to reflect their terroir.
Just as wine drinkers reap the benefits of grape antioxidants through the digestive tract, vinotherapy works by sending those antioxidants through the skin. Free radicals in the environment such as UV rays, pollution, dietary fat, smoke and stress, all accelerate the skin cells oxidation which causes wrinkles, loss of skin tone and age spots. The antioxidants from the grapes hunt down and destroy these free radicals, which slows down the ageing process. Also, research has shown that grapes are a great source of polyphenol, which is 20 times stronger than Vitamin C and 50 times stronger than vitamin E. The skin of red grapes is particularly rich in resveratrol, which many scientists claim kindles cell renewal, heals wounds, and stimulates collagen production. All of these things lead to fresher, younger looking skin.

So, now there is another reason to visit a wine region, not just for the great wines and beautiful scenery, but to make your skin look and feel healthier!

Cheers!
