Last night during ESPN’s telecast of the Under Armour High School All-American game, a lot of the non-committed players revealed where they were going to play college football next year. The top rated defensive prospect in the state of Georgia is Branden Smith who played defensive back for Booker T. Washington high school in Atlanta. Smith was considering Alabama, Florida, Florida St. and Georgia. In the TV ceremony, Smith had all four hats in front of him, and then narrowed down to Georgia and Alabama before pointing to his brother Anthony Wynn, who took off his shirt to reveal an UGA jersey with the No. 1 on it. This is a huge commitment for the Dawgs and apparently they have made a couple of promises to the young man. The first being that he will be able to wear the #1, the last four years that number was worn by Mohamed Massaquoi but he graduated this year. Also, it seems that they are expecting Branden to be the next Champ Bailey and not only be an outstanding DB, but he will also have some special offensive plays created for him by Coach Bobo. He will have a good shot at playing in the first game next year since our secondary is not very strong. I am sure that also factored into his decision. I am just glad he chose UGA over those other schools and look forward to seeing him out on the field next season!
Go Dawgs!
