Well, on the day that Boston officially announced their newest member of their pitching staff, long time Brave John Smoltz, the Braves announce they signed a deal with Derek Lowe. This is a huge signing for the Braves even if they had to pay top dollar! Lowe signed a 4 year $60 million dollar deal. This is the biggest free agent the Braves have landed in years! Yes, even bigger than Japanese All Star pitcher Kenshin Kawakami who just signed a couple of days ago. But now with Lowe at the top of the rotation, the Braves could have a pretty solid pitching staff. I still think it would have been better with Smoltz in the rotation, but what is done is done. We now need to concentrate on getting an outfielder that can hit for power and is a solid in the field. Currently there aren’t a lot of those guys out on the free agent market. Perhaps we will have to sign Andrew Jones again. He does seem to be the most logical choice right now even though he didn't have a great year his last one in a Braves uniform.Anyway, the signing of Lowe is a nice move by GM Frank Wren and I hope he is not done. There are still some holes to fill in the lineup! But this was a good start!
Go Braves!
