A few ski resorts open today!

Even though the weather is still very pleasant in the south, the official start of ski/snowboarding season is upon us! Snow has been falling for a couple of weeks now out west and there are a couple of resorts that are opening today. In Colorado, Breckenridge and Keystone officially open the 08/09 season today! In Utah, Snowbird continues their tradition of having the longest ski season. They currently have 17-20 inches of natural snow that has fallen in the last two weeks, but the snow making has been going on since mid October. Only about 10% of the mountain is open right now, but that is plenty for the die hards that have been waiting all summer to get back on the slopes. These two resorts are the first to officially open; most resorts out west will not open for another couple of weeks. Here are the dates for several of the major resorts:

Vail — November 21st
Beaver Creek — November 26th
Winter Park – November 19th
Steamboat Springs – November 26th
Heavenly — November 23rd
Park City – November 22nd
The Canyons – November 27th
Deer Valley – December 6th
Alta – November 21st
Whistler Blackcomb – November 27th
Aspen – Snowmass – November 27th
Aspen Highlands – December 13th
Buttermilk – December 13th

Here is a shot of the Beaver Creek Bridge, it looks like it is going to be another great year on the slopes!
