Wine Review - 2006 Domaine d'Andezon Cotes du Rhone

This is a Value Alert!

Domaine d'Andezon is located on the Southwestern edge of the Rhone Valley, just south of Tavel and Lirac. The parcel of old vines had traditionally been sold to a negociant (be on the look out for a post on negociants soon) but the wine maker was able to convince the owners to keep those grapes and release them as their own. That was how this nice, bold, spicy wine was started. The vines that the grapes come from are over 100 years old and product extremely low yields which makes the wine more concentrated.

The wine is a blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache grapes and received a 90 points rating by Robert Parker. Because of the hig percentage of syrah, this Cotes du Rhone is heavier than most. It is an extremely dark purple almost black color and has aromas of lavender, licorice and herbs. On the palate, it has bold flavors of cherry and blackberry fruit and a hint of leather. It has a long, pure finish and will be perfect for the cooler nights to come. I have only seen this wine at Sherlocks in the Atlanta area and I got it for $10.99. It is a great value and will go good with all kinds of food. If you see this bottle, I recommend picking up several!

Cheers!
