A Black night in Athens

Well, the hype and the excitement was at an all time high on Saturday evening in Athens. The entire town was electric and everyone was anticipating a hard fought SEC battle between two top ten teams. The Georgia fans were out in force all dressed in black, it was a pretty cool sight to see, especially in the stadium! I can’t remember the stadium being louder than it was right before the first kickoff, perhaps the very first blackout against Auburn last year, but it is hard to say. Both were extremely loud and the stadium was rocking! Then the game began and it all went downhill from there. Alabama took the ball and ran it right down our throats. Our defense looked pretty bad and they were gaining yards on every play. Then is sure seemed like Saban had slipped the reffs a little something extra since all of the calls were against the Dawgs. Some of them were legit, while others were pretty questionable.
I felt like Coach Bobo called a pretty poor game. For example, it was third down and 7 yards to go and he called a naked bootleg for Stafford. First of all, Stafford is not very fleet of foot and only gains a yard or two. There were calls like that all night and I guess he was trying to catch Bama sleeping, but none of them worked. It looked like Bama had our playbook and they were always ready for the play we called. Maybe we should investigate them; maybe they were taping signals like the New England Patriots? Anyway, the first half was horrible for the Dawgs. We couldn’t move the ball and we couldn’t stop them. Bama scored on their first five possessions. I wasn’t even sure if their punter dressed out for the game, it was that bad!

Bama totally shut down our big guns, Moreno had 9 carries for just 34 yards and now has a hurt elbow. Stafford was 24-42 for 274 yards and had his bell rung. Again, there were some crucial dropped passes and stupid penalties that could have changed the outcome. It just seemed that the players were undisciplined. I guess that stuff is easy to say after a loss like that. But I am glad to see the Dawgs didn’t give up in the second half, like they did last year against Tennessee. I was also glad that most of the Georgia fans stuck around after halftime. Those who left should be ashamed of themselves!
Overall, the Dawgs just got whipped! There were some plays and calls that could have changed the entire outcome of the game, but good teams overcome those things. The Dawgs just need to regroup, refocus, and get back to basics. We can still win the SEC East and perhaps have a rematch with Bama in the SEC Championship game. But in order for that to happen, they cannot have another game like that one. Lets let it go and turn our attention to Tennessee. Remember what they did to us last year and lets get our revenge on the Great Pumpkin!

Go Dawgs!
