Wine Review –2005 Sunstone Syrah

The California Wine Club introduced me to Sunstone Vineyards and Winery a while ago and the more I try the more I like their wines. Sunstone is located in the Santa Ynez Valley and was one of the first certified organic wineries in the Santa Barbara area. This syrah is big and very enjoyable. It has a deep red color and aromas of blueberry, cocoa, dark cherry and pepper. On the palate, there are notes of cherry, blueberry, tobacco and hints of vanilla and spice. It has a long, smooth finish and is not heavy like some syrah’s can be. This wine is ready to drink now and would probably age nicely for up to 5-7 years. Also, it would go well with a lot of different foods. We had grilled hamburgers that night and the syrah was excellent! It retails in the $30-$35 range, but as a member of the California Wine Club I only paid $10.99 for it.

Cheers!
