Glory’s last shot!

Today at Oakland Hills Country Club just outside of Detroit, the 90th PGA Championship tees off. This is the last major tournament of the year and even though there is no Tiger in the field, there will still be some good golf. The rough is going to be brutal just like at the US Open and the length of the course is unreal. The players call this course “The Monster” This might be the toughest tournament for the PGA players this year. It is going to be high drama, especially on the weekend. There are several guys that have been playing well going into this tournament. Of course, my pick will be Phil Mickelson. I would love to see him win this Championship, but he has struggled lately and he has broken my heart way too many times. But if he can keep his drives in the fairways, he will have a shot! Some other guys that I would look for at the top of the leader board when this is over are; Lee Westwood, he is playing great golf lately and definitely has some momentum, Kenny Perry, he too has been tearing up the course in the last few tournaments, Sergio Garcia, if he could improve his putting he will be a huge threat, and Jim Furyk, he is one of the most consistent players on the tour.

Here is an interesting fact, no European player has won the PGA Championship since the 1930’s. With all of the great European players out there, how can this happen? I am sure there is a little added pressure on the top European players to win and break that drought. We will have to watch and see. There is plenty of coverage of the tournament on TNT and CBS as well as online. I am watching it as I type. You got to love the internet!
