Wine Review – Landmark Grand Detour 2006 Pinot Noir

This pinot noir tastes like a pinot noir should taste like! This release by Landmark Vineyards consists of grapes from five different Sonoma Coast vineyards: Kanzler, Keller Estate, Flocchini, Gap’s Crown and Armagh. This wine was named after the location of John Deere’s blacksmithing shop in Illinois. Yeah, you read that right, John Deere, the tractor company. Actually, the winery got it start in Grand Detour, Illinois. John Deere’s great, great granddaughter moved the winery from Illinois to Sonoma, Californian in 1989. Now they are producing top quality wines and the Grand Detour 2006 Pinot Noir is definitely one of their best! This pinot is elegant and well balanced. After pouring into a glass you notice the light ruby color and you get aromas of red berries, cherry, and a hint of earthiness. It has silky feeling in the mouth and you can taste strawberry and a touch of herbs. There is a long lingering and smooth finish and it is a pure joy to drink. This is what a pinot should taste like! It retails for $35 dollars and would go nicely with salmon and other fish dishes. It really went well with our fresh seafood fettuccini while we were on holiday at the beach.

Cheers!
