US Women’s soccer in trouble!
Currently the US Women’s soccer team should be preparing for the upcoming Olympics, which starts in 3 weeks. But instead they are trying to figure out how to replace the teams leading scorer and leader. In a friendly against Brazil, Abby Wambach had a violent collision with a Brazilian player and ended up fracturing both her tibia and fibula. She is going to have surgery to have a titanium rod inserted into her leg and will be out for 12 weeks or so. Wambach is the team's leading scorer this year with 13 goals and 10 assists. She has led the team in scoring in the last three major championships and is one of the top scorers in U.S. history with 99 goals in 127 games. This is a huge blow the Gold Medal hopes for the US Women’s team. Wambach’s replacement is Natasha Kai and she is a solid player and actually scored the winning goal against Brazil after she replaced Wambach in the game. But she doesn’t have the experience and leadership that Wambach brought to the team. She is definitely as tough as Abby, just check out all of her tattoos! The US team starts defending their Olympic title on Aug 6th against Norway. They are still one of the favorites even with Wambach being out, but she will be greatly missed.
