PGA News

This is a big week for the PGA, on Thursday the 108th US Open Championship will take place in San Diego at Torrey Pines Golf Course. This will be the first tournament for Tiger since the Masters and having he knee scoped. There is some concern that Tiger still isn’t fully healed and he has yet to walk a full 18 holes since the finial round of the Masters. I personally think he is going to be a tough as ever! He has not played in almost 2 months and will be hungry and energized. I would never bet against him! But I feel that this is Phil Mickelson’s tournament to win. He grew up on this course and currently lives there now. He is in the best shape he has been in for years and is playing really well right now. If he can manage the pressure of a major with the additional hometown pressures, he will have a good chance to win. He and Tiger will be paired together the first two days and it would be very exciting if they were paired together in the last group on Sunday. Talk about drama!

There is some bad news for the Atlanta area golf fan. The PGA has decided to pull the plug on the AT&T Classic that is played in Atlanta since 1967. The last several years, the tournament has been played at Sugarloaf Country Club. They plan on replacing the AT&T with a tournament for the senior tour, but the level of play won’t be the same. The last AT&T Classic was won last month by former UGA All-American Ryuji Imada. At least we still have the finally of the PGA season with The Tour Championship at East Lake. This is the last tournament in the race for the FedEx cup and takes place in late September.
