No hitter!

No hitters in major league baseball are rare; usually there is only one or two a year if any. Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester threw one last night against the Kansas City Royals. This was the first complete game for the 24-year-old pitcher. Lester struck out 9 batters and allowed two walks and the Red Sox won the game 7-0. As with most no hitters, there was great defense behind the pitcher and most pitchers who throw a no hitter say it would not have been possible without the great play of his teammates. A no hitter is quite an accomplishment and he also got the win in the final game of the 2007 World Series, but those may not be his biggest accomplishments. Jon Lester is a cancer survivor! In 2006, Lester was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He battled through chemo and worked his way back up to the big club and is once again pitching well. I am not a Red Sox fan, I actually hate them as much as I hate the NY Yankees, but I am a fan of this kid. What a way to kick cancer's ass!

Nice job Jon!
