AT&T Classic

Today was the first round of the AT&T Classic (formerly know as the Bell South Classic) just up the street from my office at the TPC Sugarloaf. It is an ugly day in the Atlanta area but there has only been one rain delay so far. The course is tough enough in good conditions but will be playing extra tough today with the wind and rain. The only advantage the golfers have in these conditions is they can go right at the pins and the greens will hold. There could be some low scores today!

Due to the timing of the tournament, the week after The Players Championship, most of the top ranked players aren’t playing. The highest rank player in the field is Stewart Cink and he is probably only playing this week because he actually lives on the Sugarloaf golf course. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t big names in the field. The former #1 ranked golfer in the world, David Duval, is playing in his first PGA tournament of the year. Greg Norman, who designed the course, is also playing. Also, there are a lot of the young guns playing this week. There will be some good golf this weekend and it will be fun to watch. The course is extremely long and challenging for both the players and the spectators! I love to watch the guys go for it on 18. That is one hell of a hole!
