Wine Review – 2006 Summerland Pinot Noir

As you might know, my wife and I are members of the California Wine Club. We get shipments of different boutique wines every month. That is how we first heard of Summerland Winery and loved the selection that they sent us in that shipment. The pinot noir was not part of the shipment, but when I saw the pinot noir in my local store, I knew I wanted to try it out. We were having guest over that night so I picked up a couple bottles and they were a big hit! I wish I had picked up more. The grapes for this pinot were harvested from two different vineyards in Santa Barbara County, which is one of the best regions of California for growing pinot grapes. It is 100% pinot noir and was aged in French oak barrels for 8 months. It has a beautiful light garnet color with wonderful aromas of black cherry and clove. It is very smooth on the palate and with burst of cheery and subtle hints of oak. This pinot went wonderfully with the fish tacos that we were having for dinner and I know it would go great with salmon or pork. It retails at $22 and is ready to drink now. If you see this in your local wine store, pick one up immediately and go home and drink it, you won’t be sorry!

Cheers!
