Last Friday, we were in attendance for the second of two sold out shows at the Fox Theatre by one of the hottest country bands around, Sugarland. I am not a huge country music fan, but I do like the music of Sugarland. We have seen Sugarland before, but that was right when they were getting started and hadn’t hit it big yet. That first show was at the Variety Playhouse and nowhere near the production that we saw on Friday. The enormous video screen and light show being the biggest differences! Our friends Jennifer and Mark (Mark is Kristian’s brother-in-law) were able to score us some Meet and Greet passes for before the show. Meg and I were pretty excited to meet Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, but our excitement was nothing compared to our nieces Madi (of Madi’s Online Journal) and Taylor who we took to the show with us. They were extremely excited and couldn’t wait to be able ask them some questions and get their picture taken with them. Once it was our turn to meet them and get the picture taken, Taylor became star struck and couldn’t get any of her great questions out. She just gave them a hug and smiled for the picture. Eventually the girls did get a couple of questions out and Jennifer and Kristian were so nice and took a little more time to talk to them and both girls got a Sugarland guitar pick to go along with their autographed pictures.
Opening up for Sugarland those two nights was The Zac Brown Band, who did a great job and had the crowd moving. Zac Brown had some rocking songs and he seems to be a great songwriter. Also, he had quite a few guests come out and play songs with the band. I guess I would do the same if I were playing on the stage at the Fox! Once Sugarland came out on stage, they put together a high energy, very entertaining show. They played a good mix of their hits from both of their albums and a few covers including the Bon Jovi song that Jennifer sings on “Who says you can’t go home”, the Beyonce song “Irreplaceable”, and they closed the show out with their version of Def Leopard’s “Pour some Sugar on me”! They do a great job of taking songs everyone knows and putting their own twist on it. Jennifer has a beautiful voice, Kristian is a great entertainer and their backing band was awesome. No one left the Fox that night disappointed, especially my two nieces! I should be in the lead for Uncle of the Year, at least on their ballots!
Here is our picture with Sugarland and our friends Jennifer and Mark. Thanks for hooking us up guys!
