The US Open!

Today is the first round of the 109th US Open, which is being played on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in New York. Only Mother Nature is not cooperating and play has been suspended due to weather. Actually it is suppose to rain most of the weekend so it might be hard to get all four rounds in by Sunday evening. This should be a great tournament and the weather might be the equalizer for some players. Of course Tiger Woods is the favorite. He has been playing really well as of late, he is the defending champion and won the last time a tournament was held at Bethpage Black. So, of those things are in his favor, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the field is just going to lay down. There are some other great golfers that will have a shot at winning this weekend. As always Phil Mickelson needs to be in consideration but with his mind with his wife, it might be an improbable obstacle to overcome. But guys like Geoff Ogilvy, Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk , Camilo Villegas, Sergio Garcia and Paul Casey have the type of game that should fare well on this course. If they can just play smart and stay out of trouble they should have a chance. It is going to be an exciting weekend of golf and I can’t wait to kick back on Sunday evening (Father’s day) and watch the guys close out the back nine on one of the toughest courses ever built.
