The Players!

Today is the first round of the unofficial 5th major in golf, The Players Championship. The TPC is played Ponte Vedra, Florida. For the players, this is the biggest tournament of the year outside of the majors. It is also the highest payout of any tournament on the PGA tour. There is always a top-notch field full of the best players in the world and it takes four solid rounds to win. Last year Sergio Garcia won a tight one on the first playoff hole. I expect another tough fight on the last few holes on Sunday. Next to the majors, this is my favorite tournament to watch. The course is set up to be tough on the home stretch and set up for the fans. This is what they call a stadium course because each hole is perfectly framed with great viewing areas for the fans. The back nine is extremely tough and I don’t know of a better pair of finishing holes in the island green 17th and the extremely difficult 18th. Both of those holes are responsible for players blowing a lead at the most crucial part of a round. It is going to be exciting to watch!

Speaking of watching, you can go here and watch the players face the par 3 17th while you are at work. I know I will have it on for most of the day! http://www.pgatour.com/livegolf/?pgat_cid=tour_09_137
