Thrashers playing in the World Championships

The Thrashers’ season ends Saturday, but hockey season continues for several of their players. Zach Bogosian and Ron Hainsey have been invited to play for Team USA in the World Championships in Switzerland from April 24-May 10. Ilya Kovalchuk will play for Russia, Tobias Enstrom for Sweden and Boris Valabik for Slovakia.

“I’m really excited. I’ve never played in an international event,” Bogosian said. “Quite honestly, it would be better to be in the playoffs, but it’ll be a good experience.” I would rather he was playing in the playoffs as well. This has been another disappointing year for the Ice Birds, but they have really come on in the last two months of the season with a record of 16-10. I think they are a couple of pieces away from being a really good, playoff team. That is if they don’t regress back in the off season. If GM Don Waddell could just sign a couple of decent free agents in the summer and they continue to play the way they played the last two plus months of the season, they will be a force in the division and the conference. I guess we have to believe in the saying, “we’ll get em next year!”

Go Thrashers!
