UGA’s Recruiting overview

Well, now that the excitement of signing day is over lets take a look at how the Dawgs did! I know, this is totally going against what I wrote about yesterday when I talked about exploiting the kids and creating high expectations. But, I feel that I should commend the coaches for another solid class.

Overall, Georgia was ranked 8th by Scout.com and 9th by Rivals.com and came in 3rd among SEC teams. I think this class wasn’t as flashy as some schools only because a majority of the players committed months ago. Also, we were the only team that didn’t have a commitment dropped by a player, unlike Florida who had several defections. The Dawgs were able to fill some holes as well as stockpile some depth. We signed two of the top QB’s in the nation and they are both already in school getting used to the academics and the workouts. Also we filled a huge hole at receiver when Marlon Brown announced he was coming to Athens. That is going to be an exciting receiving corp. with A.J. Green opposite Marlon Brown! We also sign a few linemen, which we desperately need. After last year, we now realize how important depth on the line is with all of the injuries we had last year. In addition, we also signed a stud at running back, Washaun Ealey from EIC. He could be the next Knowshon!

This exceptional class can still get better when defensive tackle Kwame Geathers of Carver’s Bay, S.C., and tight end Orson Charles of Tampa announce their intentions. UGA is still at the top of these guys lists and have a good shot at landing both. If that happens we would move up to the top 5 for sure! I would say this recruiting class is solid and some of these guys can step in a help out next year.

Nice job coaches!
