Nerd Week!

It seems like most weeks during the UGA football season is a rivalry game. This is due to the level of play in the SEC and how any team can win on any given Saturday. This makes the game that week, the biggest of the season. Of course the Dawgs have huge rivalries within the SEC with Florida, Tennessee and Auburn but we also have an in-state rivalry with Georgia Tech. For the last 7 years, Georgia has come out victorious and it has become a little bit less of a rivalry. That is why their coach Chan Gaily was fired last season, he couldn’t beat Georgia. Now they have a new coach and he has done a great job turning their program around. Coach Paul Johnson runs a triple option offense, which the Dawgs don’t see a lot of in the SEC. Georgia Tech is 8-3 right now and they have a shot to win the Coastal Division of the ACC, they have surpassed all expectations for this year. But if they beat the Dawgs in Athens on Saturday, it would be the icing on the cake for them.

Since the Yellow Jackets run a gimmick offense, the Dawgs will have to play assignment football. They have solid offensive line and they are great a blocking in the direction of the play. The Dawgs defense will need to improve their tackling and make sure they stay with their assignments or the tech running backs will get 10-15 yards per play. I am worried about this game only because our defense has allowed a ton of points in the 3 out of the last 4 games and our tackling has been horrendous! I am confident that our offense will put up a lot of points; I just hope we have more than they do when the clock ticks down. But Tech also has a great defense. They have 30 sacks this year and 17 interceptions, so Stafford is going to have to be on his game! Another thing that the Dawgs need to do is play smart and don’t give up any yards on stupid penalties. We are ranked 118 out of 119 teams when it comes to penalties. That is not good!

It is going to be a good, tough game and I will be cheering the Dawgs on from Gator Country as my family is going to the beach for Thanksgiving. But I will be in Athens in spirit pulling the Dawgs through to an 8th straight win against the Nerds!
