A win is a win!

Well, it wasn’t pretty and it didn’t help us in the polls (actually it hurt us in the polls), but the Dawgs pulled out a win on Saturday in Columbia, SC. It was a defensive battle, which I was expecting, but I thought we would put a few more points on the board. I think UGA missed some good scoring chances and there were too many dropped passes. Stafford was trying to go for the long ball way too many times and missed some open guys who were not as far down the field. Also, he needs to look to AJ Green more, that guy is a big time playmaker and he can make things happen when he gets the ball. Knowshon had another good game and is a constant in the sputtering offense.

I am not surprised that we dropped to #3 in the AP and the Coach’s polls; we had a pretty close game against a team that is not in the top 25. But I also don’t think it is right to reward a team for running up the score on a weak opponent (see Oklahoma 55 – Washington 14.) That is not good sportsmanship and Coach Richt would never do that.

As for those people who say the SEC isn’t the toughest conference in the college football, note in the latest AP poll has five SEC teams ranked in the top 10: No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Florida, No. 6 LSU, No. 9 Alabama and No. 10 Auburn. According to the SEC office, it represents the first time in SEC history that has happened. Also, Georgia has to play every one of those teams this year. Who can argue that Georgia doesn’t have the toughest schedule in the country? So, if we can make it through that schedule we should no doubt be playing in the National Championship game against USC.
