Happy Father’s Day

I would like to say Happy Father’s day to every Dad or soon to be Dad out there. I never really realized the significance of this day until I became a father for my self. I always thought it was just another Hallmark Holiday created to sell cards and gifts. But now I feel differently about the entire occasion. Growing up it was something I was forced to do by my mom and sisters to create a card or go get a gift. Of course at that time I didn’t realize what the entire day was supposed to mean. Now I do and I love it! My kids are still too small to really understand but that makes things even better for me. To see the efforts they my wife goes through for them to make my day special is special in it’s self. Also, now being a full grown adult (I still have problems accepting that!) I understand why days like today are so special.

My father’s day was great! It started with a home made breakfast and some fun, quality time with my wife and kids. I got some great gifts and I love the time we spent together as a family just hanging out. Then we went to my parent’s house to spend time with my Dad. My Dad is something else, he is the hardest working, caring guy I know. Everything he does he does for his family and his extended family. Growing up, he wasn’t always around. He was always out of town traveling or just working in another city. At the time I didn’t realize why he wasn’t always there, but now I understand. He was doing what he had to do to provide a great life for my mom, my three sisters and me. He has always been there for the important things and provided us a great life growing up. I know he would have rather been there at every dinner and at every game or accomplishment, but he was doing what he had to do to allow me and my sisters to do the things we wanted. At the time I know I didn’t realize that, but now I do and I can’t thank him enough. He is truly the best role model I could have had and I thank him for making me the man I am today. I hope I am half the father to my kids as he was to me. I am just now starting to appreciate everything he taught me and often find myself saying things to my kids that he used to say to me. I consider myself lucky to have him in my life and in my kid’s lives and I look forward to many more years of his love and guidance. After spending time with my Dad and most of my family, we came home to watch the end of the US Open and to grill some steaks. The steaks were great as was the excitement of the golf tournament. I couldn’t have asked for a better day!

Again, Happy Father’s day to all the Dads out there, I hope your father’s day was as good as mine!
