Manchester United wins European Cup!

That is how soccer, or I guess in this case football should be played! It was and ugly rainy day in Moscow and the field was wet and sloppy. But that didn’t stop Manchester United and Chelsea from playing a good, hard fought game. The game started off a little slow, but ended in dramatic fashion going to penalty kicks. At the end of regulation the game was tied 1-1. The goal for Man U came off a beautiful header from Cristiano Ronaldo with the Chelsea’s lone goal came from Frank Lampard who blasted a rocket from 12 yards out. After regulation and extra time, the game remained tied. On to penalty kicks! The Blues from Chelsea had a chance to win it in the shot out after the sure-footed Ronaldo missed his PK. But the Blues couldn’t capitalize when their captain John Terry slipped on the wet turf and sent his kick wide right off the post. A few kicks later, Man U’s keeper Edwin Van der Sar stopped Anelka’s attempt to seal the deal. This is the 3rd European title for Manchester United and their first one since 1999.
This was the first time in European Cup history that where both teams were English teams. It was a game which Chelsea had several chances to go ahead in regulation time and during the penalty kicks but just couldn’t convert. This game has become an instant classic and to prove that I just didn’t make that up, it will be replayed on ESPN Classic on Saturday at 8:00pm. Don’t miss it!
