Wine Review - Casal Garcia Vinho Verde

Value Alert! - As the weather gets warmer you will start to see some white wine reviews. We tend to drink a lot more white wine during the warmer months and therefore I will be reviewing more whites. I wanted to start with a wine that is a little different, Casal Garcia's Vinho Verde This wine is like a beautiful spring day! Vinho Verde is a blend of native Portuguese varietals Loureiro, Trajadura, Arinto, and Azal. This wine hails from the Vinho Verde appellation of Portugal and "vinho verde" actually means "green wine" in Portuguese. In the bottle it looks green, in the glass it has a light yellow-green color. Also in the glass there are bubbles, almost champagne like. It has a nose of citrus, and is crisp and effervescent. It has tastes of citrus and is light and refreshing, perfect for those warm, late afternoons on the porch. This is a fun and delicious white wine and since it is not well known, it is very reasonably priced at $8.99. This wine would be prefect for a picnic and would go well with seafood dishes. I have had a couple different labels of Vinho Verde and they have all been good. Try something different and pick up a bottle the next time you are wine shopping you won’t be disappointed!

Cheers!
