Happy Earth Day

OK, today day is the day that we are reminded how the quickly the earth is deteriorating. It is become very popular to Go Green! All the celebrities are doing their parts by driving hybrids and recycling their bottled waters. But then they will get on their private jets and fly to a movie premier or their next rock show. Listen, I understand that the earth is being abused and something needs to be done. But I am sick of seeing Al Gore and all his Hollywood friends tell me that the world is going end if we don’t change our ways. They are mostly talk anyway! I agree there are problems and everyone needs to do their share to save energy and fuel. But I don’t need to be ambushed by their scare tactics. There are some simple things that people can do that won’t turn their lifestyles upside down. These are some simple things that we do to help the environment:

Recycle more and by recycled goods
Buy less bottled water
Eat organic and local – (save on transportation cost, packaging, helps local economy and things are fresher)
Change your light bulbs to efficent compact florescent ones
Take shorter showers
Don’t pre-rinse your dishes, (dishwashers and the detergents are strong enough to do the job)
Only do full loads of laundry
Turn off the lights when you leave a room
Unplug rarely used appliances and electronicsBuy in bulk when possible – (less packaging and waste)

These are some of the things we try to do at our house. I am not going to preach to you, I think every reasonable person knows there is a problem, I mean look at the gas prices right now! If everyone can do a few small things, their lives won’t be turned upside down and they will make a difference. Every little thing counts.

Now, just like the big Hollywood stars, I am going to go get in my big, gas guzzling SUV and drive to the store to buy my bottled water and organic veggies. I guess I can relate to them!

Have a great Earth Day and love your mother!

Amen Brother! I completely agree. Although I am guilty of taking way too long showers, we are trying to do everything we can. Hopefully we will have made some progress for Mac & Henry's generation.
