End of a long season

Well, over the weekend, the Thrashers played their finial game of the year. I would be lying if I were to say that I wasn’t disappointed in the season. The playoffs start this week and the Thrashers players will all be at home watching them. They did close out the season with 3 wins in their last 5 games, but that was too little too late. They finished the season with 76 points. They were still in the playoff race until mid March. They started their slide the last week of February and never recovered. They had some moments of brilliance in the second half of the season, like the comeback win against the Flames. But they weren’t able to maintain that level of play for the entire season. I feel that they should have tried to trade some of the guys whose contracts are up now, like Hedberg, Holik or Recchi. But at that time Waddell felt like we still had a shot at the division and the playoffs. I am pretty happy with the players that we got in the Hossa trade. I think they are going to be solid players for us in the future. We have a core of quality, young players that will only get better the longer they play together. Now Waddell needs to start looking towards next year and finding a coach that will work with the young guys to get them back to the playoffs again next year. As a fan, I am very disappointed that we didn’t make the playoffs, but I also see a bright future if we can just find the right coach and a couple more players. I am looking forward to the start of training camp in September!

Go Thrashers!
