Spring Ball

This week was the start of Georgia’s spring football practice and there is excitement in the air. Georgia is coming off a year when they finished with a number 2 ranking and should have been considered to play in the National Championship game. But they were skipped over and given a weak opponent in Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. The Dawgs easily took care of the Rainbow Warriors and beat them 41-10. That big win has carried over to the start of spring practice, which began on Monday. The Dawgs have only been on the field twice this spring and Coach Richt is already singing the praises of the team. It helps when only 5 starters from last year’s team need to be replaced. Most importantly, all of the skilled players are returning and have a good deal of experience. Stafford, Moreno, and Massaquoi are ready to lead the offense while Ellerbe and Allen are being looked at to lead the defense.

The Dawgs have a tough schedule ahead of them; actually it is the one of the toughest in the country. They will face five teams in the SEC who have coaches with National Titles: Saban (Bama), Meyer (UF), Miles (LSU), Spurrier (USC), and Fulmer (UT). Then they will face a non conference team that has a coach who has a national title in Dennis Erickson (ASU). Then if you go to lower divisions, the Dawgs face Georgia Southern and their coach, Chris Hatcher, has a national title in Division II and so does Paul Johnson who now coaches at Ga Tech. Then to be fair to the Auburn fans, Tuberville should have had a chance to play for a national Championship in 2004 but got snubbed by the BCS committee. So if Georgia can get through that schedule undefeated or with only 1 lose, they should be playing for the National title! But lets get through the spring drills before we start talking about that!

Go Dawgs!
