OK, it almost didn’t happen, but it did and we couldn’t be happier! Meg’s blood levels were on the border once again but they were still high enough for the doctor to allow her to go through with the treatment. There is going to be a slightly different plan of action for her post treatment regimen, she will now get 5 shots of Neupogen after 5 days. Also she will get at least one more shot of Procrit tomorrow. But all of that is minor when you think about what she has gone through. Granted, she still has to get deal with the side effects and get through the recovery. But it is comforting to know that she will not have to sit through another infusion session. I don’t expect this recovery to be any easier than the ones before, actually it will probably be worse due to the cumulative effects of the drugs. But on the bright side, this is the last time she will have to endure these side effects. The doctor said to expect it to take at least 6 months to a year before she fully feels like her old self. If that is even possible after what she has gone through. Our lives have been forever changed with this experience, but I would expect Meg to be more like her old self in shorter time than that. She has shown such courage and strength, I don’t see her stopping now. She is going to make it through this recovery and start reclaiming her life. Knowing her, she will be back running in a month or so and she will be back chasing the boys all around sooner than that! But in the meantime, please continue to think of Meg and help her through this recovery. This is the hard part of the round!
This was our schedule for the day:
11:00am - Get blood drawn and meet with Dr. Austin
12:15pm – Start of infusion – Decardon – Steroid
12:40pm – Taxotere – for the last time!
1:45pm – Lines flushed and removed! NO MORE CHEMO!
Cancer Sucks! But Meg kicked its ass!
