Big Apple Circus

Well it is February and that means that it is time for the home teams (Thrashers and Hawks) to go on a long road trip and the circus comes to town. But in Atlanta that means multiple circuses come to town. I am not sure why that is, but as long as I can remember, every time Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey circus came to town, there was always another circus in town at the same time. I had always gone to The Greatest Show on Earth and never tried any of the other ones. Well, this time we decided to give one of the smaller circuses a shot. Meg and I took the boys to the Big Apple Circus at Stone Mountain. This had more of a circus or carnival feel with the big top set up in a huge parking lot and the smell of stale popcorn and cotton candy in the air. Once in the tent, I realized there wasn’t a bad seat in the house, mainly because the house was not that big. So you really felt like you were sitting close to the ring, even if you were in the back row like were almost were! Anyway, the boys loved the clowns and the animal acts while Meg and I were more into the crazy acts like the contortionist and the tumblers. It was really different than being in a huge arena far from the rings and the action. This was more of the classic variety circus show that had smaller acts. Also, the live band added another element that you don’t get from the circus in the big arenas. The Big Apple Circus is very different than Ringling Bros. and we all had a good time. So if you have never gone to any of the smaller traveling circuses, you should give it a shot. But now I am ready for the sports teams to come back for some home games!
